The International Congress of Copepodology was held from July 12-19, 2008, in Pattaya, Thailand. Through generous funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation obtained through the efforts of Grace Wyngaard, Jeffrey Boore was invited to attend and deliver the plenary lecture, "The Daphnia Genome and You: Will Your Favorite Genome Be Sequenced?". As the title implies, this talk described first the work on to generate and interpret the complete genome sequence of the crustacean Daphnia pulex, a project where Boore was the senior scientist, and then used this to illustrate the factors that would be important for advancing toward a complete genome sequence of one or more copepods. Both Boore and Susan Fuerstenberg then participated in a two-day workshop to build a set of proposals to advocate for this genome sequencing. BACK to News and Publications |
