NEWS The National Science Foundation has a program called "Assembling the Tree of Life". (Jeffrey Boore has been an advisor to this program several times as well as a recipient of grant funds from several awards.) One award under this program is "Assembling the Heterokont Tree of Life". The project started with a meeting of all senior scientists on the project in Portland, Maine, in November, 2006, which includes both Boore and Fuerstenberg from Genome Project Solutions. Four collaborative awards were made for this project. The subaward to Genome Project Solutions comes from the award to Ed Theriot at the University of Texas Austin. For the Heterokont Tree of Life, there is also an award to Rose Ann Cattolico of the University of Washington, and award to Matthew Julius of Saint Cloud State University, and an award to Robert Andersen of Bigelow Institute for Ocean Sciences.
